From Democracy to Demonocracy - Part IV

Count Dravida
Vampires always wear dark glasses, because if the sun hits them, they'll turn into dust. It's the same with this man, whose entire political existence depends, in fact on hiding from the light of truth.
'Kalaignar' Karunanidhi

The bizarre fiction of 'Dravidians' being conquered by 'Aryans', a theory that Western archaeologists refuted long before Indian independence is the basis of politics in Tamil Nadu right uptil this very day!

And to top it all, in a policy reminescent of Pol Pot, that politics has targeted the segment of Tamil society traditionally engaged in scholarship, sustaining possibly the most casteist regime ever conceived in the history of mankind. A regime that has driven away droves of human capital - seeking refuge from the DMK's (and its various predecessors and contemporaries') systematic persecution.

They've fled - like my parents did, (perhaps yours too) - North or overseas, because there was no hope for them in the land of their birth. Not if the state decided to classify them as 'Brahmins'.

Of course Tamil Nadu politicians have never bothered much about brain drain. Fomenting hatred against Brahmins is their stepping stone to power. And believe me, they crush the people the 'Brahmins' supposedly oppressed with far greater efficiency than any Brahmin ever could have!

If the truth were to be acknowledged, - that there was no "Aryan invasion" of "Dravidians", that it was all a racist fiction dreamt up by a Nazi-admiring archaeologist who was discredited summarily by his peers - the whole basis of the "Dravida Munnetra" movement in all its acronym variants would incinerate into dust....

....which is why some people prefer the dark.

Someone is bound to ask why I haven't included the Red Menace in this discussion. The simple answer is because this series is about the power centres in our government today. The Red Menace is so meek you can't even call it a Pink-o Nuisance anymore... it's the Rose Irrelavence....

Ok, now I'm done!

The sarcasm made interesting reading. I am interested to know when, if ever, the "Ka(a)la-ignar" does away with his "dark shades". Any clue?
I am not aware of the history behind the symbol of the DMK flag, but looks like he is eternally waiting for the sun to raise from behind the mountains with his shades on. Else,it must be that he is mourning the sunset!

Hi Anonymous -

I would have to say he never takes the shades off. Three years ago, Amma sent a goon squad at midnight to his bedroom to haul him off to jail. If you believe the pics of that arrest, not even they managed to catch MK without his shades... have a look:

I hope my brothers and sisters of Kaveri land realize that if they have goodness in them, what matters a brahmin or a non-brahmin? Both are irrelevant.

And what is this goodness? It is not goodness according to a rule.

When the mind becomes honest enough to admit that it does not really know the truth about anything, then such a mind, being honest, is good.

Wishing luck to the people of tamil nadu
